What a great new way to cook! I have been looking for a way to simplify meal planning for me and my family, because I am disabled and it is very hard for me to slave over a stove and cook most meals. I started looking into various cooking techniques that might reduce how much work I must do, and I found the sous vide method of cooking. I was overwhelmed by the choices available to me at first, but settled on this as a good starter cooker. I wanted to try it out without spending big bucks.

The packaging was sleek and simple, and it came with a simple reference guide for meats and a decent sized recipe book. The reference guide is the entire length of the packaging, so it's hard to store for actual reference, but I think I'll be cutting it in half so I can pop it on the fridge or tape it in a cabinet. It is nice to have that reference, since looking through the recipe guide, or going online to check for each new meat is a little tedious. The recipe book has a lot of very nice recipes that I can't wait to try out for myself!

The cooker itself is sleek and looks great for what it is. It clips onto the pan or vessel with ease, no worrying about a clamp or knobs or anything. Just one, two, three, go. The screen is touch screen, and it has bright numbers for the temperature and the timer. It was a little confusing to figure out how to set the temperature, as well as the timer, even following the directions given. The first time I used it, it seemed to work without a problem, but then the second time it kept beeping and the water wasn't heating up, and it turns out I had accidentally paused the cooker. I'd say once you get used to the interface and what buttons to press when, it's relatively intuitive. You press the temperature button, then plus or minus to set, then you press the timer button, press plus or minus to set, then you press play.

Using it was a definite weight off my shoulders. I had the constant feeling the first few times that I needed to go check on my food, but I had the reassurance that it wasn't going to overcook since the water bath was consistently set to the same temperature, give or take one degree or so. I was able to season my meat, toss it in a bag, and then leave it to cook for a few hours. Once it was done, I took it out to sear, then served. It took a huge strain off me to be able to prep so quickly, and I didn't have to stand around for the cooking.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a new cooking technique, who likes to "set it and forget it".
