Product Packaging & Inclusions

As with any Amazon package I've ever received, the Shiatsu Shoulder Massager came well cushioned for transit. The item was essentially double protected by the shipping box as well as the product packaging itself. Very sturdy.

Upon opening the box containing the massager it was clear to see that things arrived in just the condition you would expect. The item itself was wrapped in plastic along with all of the other components included in the package.

Included with the Shiatsu Shoulder Massager were the following: Instruction Manual, 12 VDC 2A Power Adapter, Car Cigarette Adapter, Massager Apparatus.

Quality & Product Details

The heft of the Shiatsu Shoulder Massager is quite impressive. It appears to be well made and NOT a one-and-done use as many of today's electronics are. The overall weight of the Shiatsu Massager is approximately 3.5 pounds.

The exterior material seems very simple to keep clean. It has a smooth leatherette exterior face and a breathable fabric interior, there is a zipper running the full length of the piece. The cover could easily be removed for more intense cleaning if you should desire to do so. The wiring harness with the buttons have been constructed in such a way that it can be taken out of the massager and installed back into place.

Easy grip handles allow even not so nimble hands to simply slide into the cuff in order to hold the Shiatsu Shoulder Massager in place. Along with the Velcro closures, this is an added benefit for those who may not have the grip due to arthritis and so on.

The power array is very clearly marked and the buttons seem durable to the touch. Even the plug power connections appear to snap firmly into place.

Operation & Functionality

For this review I utilized the 12V DC Adapter which plugs into the wall. When securing the plug into the Shiatsu Shoulder Massager I was impressed with how secure the connection was held into place. While the cord reach itself was only about 5 feet, it took a little forethought as to where I'd plug the device into the wall - at least the cord connection would hold firmly in case of an unintentional tug.

Finding a comfortable seat of the massager on my shoulders was a little awkward at first. The portion of the device that contains the mechanics is slightly bulky but the 'dip' carved out of the massaging area accommodates the back of the skull well.

Sliding my hands into the strap I was quick to realize how this functionality made the device not only simple to hold but to also adjust massage pressure. While the Velcro can also be used when the Shiatsu Massager is on your shoulders it does little to maintain the pressure.

With the massager in place, it quickly became clear that my farsighted visual status was not going to benefit me. The power controls are located so high up on the shoulder of the piece it was difficult to access. After reacquainting myself with the control panel I was finally able to use my peripheral vision to find the red power button.Everything else was a guessing game while keeping the device on my shoulders.

Once I powered up the Shiatsu Massager, I was thrilled to find the level of kneading power to be perfect. A quick pressure adjustment either by pulling down or relaxing my grip on the straps allowed me to cater to my own comfort level.

Perhaps the most unenjoyable part of my initial experience was the friction created by the inner breathable lining of the massager. While at first glance when feeling the material by hand, it didn't seem so rough. BUT, once I placed it on my bare neck and turned the massager on, it was a totally different world. It felt like sand paper...very rough sand paper.Just something to keep in mind - wear a turtleneck or some sort of neck guard (scarf) when you use this product, you'll thank me.

The heat functionality is an added bonus but don't expect it to get as hot as a heating pad would.Documentation on Amazon states the temperature ranges anywhere from 113 to 116 degrees. It is warm, but Luke warm at best.

There appear to be three speeds to the Shiatsu Shoulder Massager - slow, medium and fast. Speed can be changed with each click of the button located on the power array.

When turning the device on with the red power button, the massager will operate in a continuous manner.Fluctuating between multiple kneading patterns.

If you choose to use the Intelligent Modes button it will function only in one of the three kneading patterns but with an intermittent pause between each rotation. The three kneading patterns are as follows: (Clockwise)-(Counter Clockwise), (Counter Clockwise)-(Clockwise) and then both kneading knobs in (Back and Fourth) motion. Once the Intelligent Modes button is depressed, the only way I could figure to get back to the continuous mode was to power off and power back on.

There is a green Energy-Saving mode which at this point I'm not certain how to prove there is any power saved. It would have been nice if this button had a little more description in the User Manual but there was nothing. In any case, the device has an auto shut-off after 15 minutes.

What really attracted me to this style of Shiatsu Massager was the ability for it to be used on multiple areas of the body. With my Shiatsu Massage chair it could only be used in one position and that was it.

Using the Velcro strapping, which admittedly was a bit confusing at first, I was able to secure the massager to my lower back and hip area.Heavenly! The only thing I wish I could do with this device is get up and walk around.

In Summary

Overall, I have very few complaints about the Shiatsu Shoulder Massager. It took some getting use to the placement of the power button array but it was a minor hurdle. The flexibility with the design of this piece allows the user to utilize the device according to their personal needs. Also, you can use the massager on multiple areas of the body and in some cases, hands free. After a long day of yard work I found the Shiatsu Massager helpful in releasing some of the stress and strain from the day. It is simple to handle and control in order to reach any or all of my sore, tight areas. Whether it's the neck and shoulders, my lower back or even my thighs, this massager does it all.I think of this device as my new personal on-call masseuse and I'm happy to have it so close at hand!

The value of the piece is outstanding. In comparison to a chair style Shiatsu Massager, typically averaging around $100, this massager is by far more functional, space saving and thrifty. At a price point under $40 it's a steal. Better yet, with added savings via VIPON, you'll spend even less!

My main disappointment was in the scratchy material used on the inner lining of the piece. Because of the contact it has with skin at the back of the neck it could literally rub someone raw. Beyond that, the cord could have been double the length to allow for more freedom when using the massager. Imagine standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes with the Shiatsu Massager on...oh, how I dare to dream!
